We will start from the basics, students will learn everyday conversations, reinforcing what they already know (numbers and colors, shapes and animals). This class varies and adjusts according to the age, level and way of learning of each student. Español like any other second language is about repeating, following the way that a language should be taught with plenty of patience and enthusiasm, always trying to make it fun by singing, playing, acting, I also incorporate images, videos, audios, stories, drawing and coloring, whatever it takes to achieve a correct and kind learning process.

WOW, I can read many four letter words, but what about all those other tricky words? Did you know that q has a best friend, every syllable has a vowel, words like floss follow the “floss rule”, that letter R is very bossy and that vowels work in teams? In this group based on Orton Gillingham practices my friends will dive into more complicated word patterns through games, word challenges, written expression and picture books all while increasing vocabulary and gaining reading accuracy and fluency. By gaining confidence in word decoding, students will be able to read more complex texts and focus more easily on language comprehension and other higher order reading comprehension skills. Students will participate in reading extension activities to include story element maps, creative writing and graphic organizers. They will become strong decoders who can read with a purpose, build vocabulary and increase their verbal reasoning skills.

The Woodland Writers will gather in the woods to unplug from screens and technology, relax and explore in nature, while expressing ourselves through our writing. We will learn about the different writing styles; persuasive, narrative, expository, creative and descriptive in a fun stress free environment. We will have experiences that will lead to more natural writing. We will create our own pencils, and paper to create a journal that will hold some of our chosen pieces. We will also learn about different naturalist writers such as Robert Frost and John Muir.  Curriculum will change a bit to accommodate returning students. Each student will be challenged at their individual needs.

In this class, we will explore writing prompts  by broadening our vocabulary and sentence  structure to dress up our writing output and activate the student’s creativity. This expressive writing is a form of literature; but it requires the student to use their own creativity, imagination and to portray a particular message, emotion, or plot. It is different from  the traditional forms of writing and is completely subjective to the students preferences and experiences. Please bring your imagination to class!
