We will cover life cycles of many “thought to be creepy” creatures (beetles, slugs, spiders, worms, frogs, snakes, spiders), their importance to us and their important role for our environment.  We will promote not only awareness, but appreciation for nature while becoming more brave and adventurous with outdoor, hands-on, screen free learning. This class will be rich in literature and writing opportunities.

The Woodland Writers will gather in the woods to unplug from screens and technology, relax and explore in nature, while expressing ourselves through our writing. We will learn how to write good sentences that turn into great stories. We will learn about two different writing styles; persuasive and descriptive in a fun stress free environment. We will also learn about different naturalist writers. 

This class is designed to cover basic writing skills, along with word study, blending sounds, and sight word recognition. Curriculum will change a bit to accommodate returning students. Each student will be challenged at their individual needs.

1st-5th Grades STEAM Powered Fri 9am-1pm IT

This class is geared toward 1st- 5th grade learners. This four-hour class consists of approximately 2 hours of instruction and activities. We then have a 30 minute lunch/ recess break, and 1.5 hours of more activities. The focus of this class will be to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math skills in real-world and hands on applications. Contents include: Budgets, fractions and portions in baking, blue prints, etc. We will be working on different projects than what we did in the previous year, so students are more than welcome to take this class again!

This group will include studies of biomes/ecosystems and their cycles, food chains and webs,  botany, photosynthesis and respiration, tectonic plates and earth’s layers, and natural dyes.  History will begin right before the American Civil War and continue through the Gilded Age. ***PLEASE NOTE: One week a month, classes will be held at Steven’s Creek Nature Center. Drop-off and Pick-up times will be slightly different and learners will need to be brought to and picked up from Steven’s Creek.****

Get your lab coats ready, because our Super Scientists will explore the world of science through fun and educational hands-on experiments and projects. We will explore Life, Earth, and Physical Sciencethroughout our journey together.

We will have experiences that will lead to more natural writing. We will create our own pencils, and paper to create a journal that will hold some of our chosen pieces. We will also learn about different naturalist writers such as Robert Frost and John Muir.  Curriculum will change a bit to accommodate returning students. Each student will be challenged at their individual needs.
