This four-class consists of approximately two hours of Language Arts instruction.  Learners will have guided instructional time and participate in hands-on activities pertaining to phonics, grammar, poetry, journaling, comprehension strategies, and a read aloud.  We then have a 30 minute lunch/recess break.  After lunch, we will focus on objectives of 1st/2nd grade mathematics.  Learners will experience fun activities, utilize manipulatives, and engage in learning that requires critical thinking.  We will represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction, focus on understanding place value, measure and estimate lengths in standard units.  We will also work with time, money, data, and attributes of shapes.  The opportunities in this class will instill a love of learning!

"Aspiring Authors" is a creative writing class designed specifically for children who have a love for storytelling and a desire to improve their writing skills. This fun and interactive course will guide students through the process of writing their own stories. Each session will focus on different elements of storytelling, such as character development, plot building, and descriptive writing. By the end of the course, students will have written and illustrated their own short stories that they can share with friends and family. This class will not only boost students' writing skills, but also help build their confidence and self-expression. Join us on an exciting journey of imagination and creativity!

The Woodland Writers will gather in the woods to unplug from screens and technology, relax and explore in nature, while expressing ourselves through our writing. We will learn how to write good sentences that turn into great stories. We will learn about two different writing styles; persuasive and descriptive in a fun stress free environment. We will also learn about different naturalist writers. 

This class is designed to cover basic writing skills, along with word study, blending sounds, and sight word recognition. Curriculum will change a bit to accommodate returning students. Each student will be challenged at their individual needs.

We will learn about the different writing styles; persuasive, narrative, expository, creative and descriptive in a fun stress free environment. We will have experiences that will lead to more natural writing. We will create our own pencils, and paper to create a journal that will hold some of our chosen pieces. We will also learn about different naturalist writers such as Robert Frost and John Muir.  Curriculum will change a bit to accommodate returning students. Each student will be challenged at their individual needs.

In this class, we will explore writing prompts  by broadening our vocabulary and sentence  structure to dress up our writing output and activate the student’s creativity. This expressive writing is a form of literature; but it requires the student to use their own creativity, imagination and to portray a particular message, emotion, or plot. It is different from  the traditional forms of writing and is completely subjective to the students preferences and experiences. Please bring your imagination to class!

 Our young people need to learn these skills more than ever as they transition into adulthood so that they may be independent self-sufficient members of our society. Our world is vastly changing where we have robots to vacuum, AI to think for us and the lists go on and on. This class aims to instill the following characteristics through activities designed around hands-on opportunities to develop and strengthen these everyday “real world” expectations. Students will be assigned projects weekly that will focus on the particular skill for that week. Here are some of the skills that this class will address:  Focus and Self-Control. Perspective, Communication., Making Connections., Critical Thinking. Taking on Challenges. Self-Directed, Engaged Learning. Decision-Making. Health and Hygiene.Time Management. Meal Prep.Money Management. Cleaning. and Laundry.

Peaceful Readers is a level 1 Orton Gillingham class designed for emergent readers and spellers. This class is unique in that it also incorporates yoga exercises to help the children improve their focus, concentration, and physical well-being. By the end of the course, students will have a better understanding of letter sounds, basic phonics, and simple words, while also gaining a sense of calm and balance through yoga. This class is an excellent way for young children to learn, grow, and have fun at the same time.

**$450 per month, September through May.** You will receive an invoice from October through May for $450 per month to participate in this class. One registration fee per learner is required to register for this or any class.

This four-hour class is perfect for age 4 through lower level First Grade, and is based on learning through play. The curriculum will follow developmentally appropriate goals and objectives for children within four main categories of interest: social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language. The goal is to help promote independence, self-confidence and a love of learning. We will go outside everyday, maybe multiple times, even in the rain. We will explore, get dirty and go on adventures! I have a love of children’s literature that I hope to share with your children. Our literacy exploration will lead to learning the alphabet, letter sounds and even early reading. Math and science will be hands-on. We will learn that we can all be little scientists with fun, messy experiments! I am excited to create rich environments for learning, and forge strong home-school connections. It will be a GREAT year!
