Calling all muggles!  Come and explore the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Muggles and Magic is an engaging and hands-on reading and science club for Harry Potter fans in grades 5-8.  Students will strengthen their vocabulary skills and reading comprehension using data-driven reading strategies and other literary elements. This will be done through rich discussions and creative projects such as writing a Wizarding newspaper and creating their own spell book to complete a study of Latin and word roots. We will also explore the science behind Hogwarts classes such as Herbology, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, and Transfiguration. In Herbology, students will study plants with a magical twist. Dissecting a flower, studying the life cycle of a plant, and creating a field guide of herbs are some of the fun projects we will do in this class. Bring your camping chair for reading outside and be prepared to be sorted into your rightful Hogwarts house by the sorting hat.  We will start off the year with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

*$25 Lab fee required for consumables. This will be included on your first invoice.

This group will explore how God has truly blessed the USA with scenic beauty, natural resources, freedom, interesting people, and exciting places to visit. On a road trip across the USA, we will explore this beautiful nation together. We will visit caves, caverns, mountains, rivers, lakes, beaches, islands, swamps, deserts, and national parks. On our journey, we will encounter landmarks, Presidential libraries, gardens, churches, tribal lands, museums, farms, and theme parks. Get ready to meet the people who made their state and our nation great!

After an overview of the country’s geography, climate, state boundaries, capitals, and capitols, we explore region by region. We will start in the Southern states and travel up to the Mid-Atlantic and New England states. Then, we will head to the Midwest, Southwest, West, and Pacific states. Finally, we will explore these five territories.

Students will end the year with a new appreciation for the United States of America with its rich diversity and commitment to freedom, faith, and family.
